24 Hours in Cyberspace

On January 30th, 1996, Peter Hinckley and Rick Selleck of the SES left Cape Cod Massachusetts for a visit to the Northwest Territories. They were accompanied by Nick Thompson of Orbcomm Canada and Eugene Fisher, the photographer for 24 Hours in Cyberspace . The trip was sponsored in part by the Inuvialuit Development Corporation, Inuvik, NWT, our host.
The purpose of the trip was three-fold. The first order of business was to test new satellite communications equipment from Orbcomm Canada and CTA Space of Virginia. The second order of business was to install NEC Versa Notebook computers in each of three communities as part of the Northern Visitors Project (Hanson/Hignell). The third part was to particpate, on February 28th, in the worldwide internet event, 24 Hours in Cyberspace.

The communities visited by the SES representatives were Inuvik, Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk and Sachs Harbour, Banks Island.
